What is it?

NapShare is a fully automated, multi network P2P client made to run 24/7 unattended.

Searching and automatic downloading happen without any user intervention. You supply a list of keywords and filters for the file types you want and it downloads overnight, automatically, also sharing whatever it gets. The automated "brain" tries to simulate searching and downloading like a human would.

Take a nap while it does the work!

It's a complete P2P client, with all the features. It connects to the Key Network and also interoperates with MUTE Network clients. It protects privacy by using a Virtual IP address and other software features.

Written using wxWindows/wxWidgets for multi-platform versions.

Download - Linux, Windows, others, click here to download.

NapNews is a companion program for NapShare. It's a fully automated news group file capture program for USENET (NNTP). It's made to run 24/7 unattended. (now unsupported, but reports of it still working come in)

Downloads MP3,JPG,MPG and more! No waiting for connections!
It's a nice companion for any P2P client to help get fresh content to the network. It's compatible with any Gnutella client, and will help obtain a steady stream of new content to share with others. Supply a list of news groups to download from and it does all the work. Set up is easy. It can handle multi part download reconstruction, mime and uudecoding. You can limit how long it works on a group, make it start and stop automatically, configure for each group differently and more!

Public Relations and Testers:

NapShare needs Public Relations! Please post to forums and chat rooms letting people know NapShare exists and what you like about it. Let review site editors know what you like about the program and ask for a review.

NapShare needs testers! If you would like to test pre release versions, get the latest from anon CVS and post any bug reports.

Developers:

Development is done using the Patch Manager here on sourceforge. Anyone can post a patch, no permission is necessary. If a few people put in a few hours each it's amazing what can be done.

Anon CVS access is available, just click on the CVS link at the top of this page. Once set up you just type "cvs update" to get any new code added to CVS.

Click on "Project Summary" above to see the project files.

Please upload your perl or shell filter scripts to the Patch Manager and they will be moved to the scripts page shortly. Upload them as a attached file please.

Privacy and P2P Network FAQ
Why do people want their privacy protected?

"Protections for anonymous speech are vital to democratic discourse. Allowing dissenters to shield their identities frees them to express critical, minority views . . . Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority. . . . It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights, and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation . . . at the hand of an intolerant society."
"Many people don't want the things they say online to be connected with their offline identities. They may be concerned about political or economic retribution, harassment, or even threats to their lives."
